Reseller Glossary

A fast dictionary of the terms you hear in buyouts, consignments, and marketplace listings. Scan before you negotiate so you're aligned on condition, pricing, and deal structure.

Release typeTerm

F&F (Friends & Family)

Extremely limited pairs given to insiders only. Scarcity is highest, so pricing leans on story and provenance more than comps.

ConditionTerm

OG All

Original everything from the first release: box, paper, extra laces, accessories, receipt. Missing items can reduce payout.

Consumer trendTerm

Hypebeast Demand

Demand driven by hype cycles rather than long-term collectability. Expect sharper price swings around drops and influencer moments.

Pricing signalTerm

Bid-Ask Spread

Gap between the highest bid and lowest ask on marketplaces. Tight spreads signal liquidity; wide spreads mean thin demand or uncertain pricing.

Pricing signalTerm

Highest Bid / Lowest Ask

Order book anchors for a product. Highest bid represents instant sell price; lowest ask is your direct competition on the market.

ConditionTerm

Deadstock (DS)

Brand new, never worn, no creasing. For sneakers, insoles and outsoles are untouched and the pair has factory lacing.

ConditionTerm

DSWT

Deadstock With Tags. Same as DS but tags are still attached or factory sealed where applicable.

ConditionTerm

VNDS

Very Near Deadstock. Lightly worn with minimal signs of use; tread and insoles show almost no wear.

ConditionTerm

Beater Pair

Heavily worn pair used for everyday wear. Value is primarily utility, not collectability.

ConditionTerm

B-Grade / Factory Flaw

Pairs with minor factory defects that bypassed standard QC. Always disclose; pricing should reflect the issue.

Release typeTerm

Quickstrike (QS)

Limited drop with little notice and small allocation. Sizes move fast; buyout offers help you secure pairs before prices swing.

Release typeTerm

General Release (GR)

Wide distribution at retail. Pricing is anchored to MSRP and supply is deep, so margins depend on volume or specific size runs.

Supply eventTerm

Restock

A new wave of inventory after the initial drop. Restocks often reset market floors; watch spreads before buying heavy.

Release typeTerm

Retro / Reissue

A modern re-release of a classic colorway or model. Demand hinges on faithfulness to the original materials and shape.

Product IDTerm

Colorway / Nickname

The specific color combination and storyline for a pair. Nicknames (e.g., ‘Bred’, ‘Panda’) influence search and pricing.

Product IDTerm

SKU / Style Code

Manufacturer identifier (e.g., CT8532-012). Use SKUs to verify authenticity, pull comps, and track size-specific pricing.

Deal structureTerm

Buyout

A store pays you upfront cash for ownership of the item. Faster payout, no upside participation after the sale.

Deal structureTerm

Consignment Split

Revenue share between consignor and store once the item sells. Terms vary; clarify who covers fees and shipping.

Note: Common splits range from 80/20 to 90/10 depending on hype and speed of sale.

Fees & mathTerm

Payout

Your take-home amount after marketplace fees, processing, shipping, and taxes. Track this over gross sale price.

StrategyTerm

Hold vs Quick Flip

Hold: wait for price appreciation after initial volatility. Quick Flip: sell into day-one demand to avoid inventory risk.

PricingTerm

Brick

A pair with little or no resale premium above retail. Often used for volume sellers chasing rebates or store credits.

SourcingTerm

Backdoor

Pairs sold outside official channels before or during release. Provenance matters—request receipts and timestamps.

DemandTerm

Grail

A top-tier, highly sought-after item for a collector. Grails command strong premiums and remain liquid longer than hype-only pairs.
